The Effect of Sleep on Academic Performance

Introduction:

Sleep is a crucial aspect of physiological functioning and has been shown to significantly impact various aspects of an individual's health, including academic performance. A lack of adequate sleep can lead to cognitive imprments that negatively affect memory retention, concentration, decision-making abilities, and overall learning efficiency.

Objective:

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between sleep duration and academic performance among high school students in a local region. This research provide insights into how sleep patterns impact student's ability to learn effectively and mntn optimal cognitive function.

A quantitative approach was employed using pre-existing standardized tests and questionnres administered before and after school hours, collecting data on the amount of sleep participants had obtned within a week preceding their assessment day. The academic performance metrics included grades in mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies, which were cross-referenced with self-reported sleep duration.

Sample:

A sample of 500 high school students from various local schools was selected using random stratification to ensure the sample's representation across different demographic characteristics such as age, ger, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.

Results:

The findings revealed a statistically significant inverse correlation between the amount of sleep students received on a weekly basis and their academic performance scores. Notably, those who consistently slept less than 7 hours per night exhibited notably lower average scores in mathematics and science subjects compared to those who averaged more than 8 hours of nightly rest.
